![]() ![]() Split times during sprints can gives us a better indication of top running speed. Average speed over this distance calculates to be 10.45 m/sec. As this event is rarely run, an even better time would probably be achieved if it was raced more regularly. The highest average sprint time is achieved using the world's best time for the 150m sprint, a record also held by Bolt at 14.35 seconds. Michael Johnson's WR time of 43.18 sec for the 400 meters gives a slower average time as expected, 9.3 meters/sec or 33.3 km/hr. Over the 400m distance, the athlete continues to fatigue, and the average running speed over this distance is of course lower. In the 200m, the second 100m is covered with a running start. This is because the sprinters start from a stationary position and some time is taken up in accelerating up to top speed. An article in the August 1996 Sports Illustrated, mentioned that Canadian Donovan Bailey reached a speed of 27.1 miles per hour (43.6 km/hr) at the 60-meter mark of his world record breaking race.Īlthough you would expect that over a distance of 200m the runner will slow down after achieving top speed somewhere in the first 100m, Usain Bolt's 200m world record time of 19.19 seconds works out to be an average speed of 10.42, practically the same average speed as for his 100m world record run. ![]() However, if you were to record instantaneous speed at different points throughout the race, the runner would reach a maximum speed much greater than this. "Speed of Animals",, retrieved November 27, 2007.If you take the average speed of the current world 100 m record (Usain Bolt's 9.58 s), you get about 10.44 meters/sec (23.35 miles/hr, 37.58 km/hr).

![]() The fingerprint scanner on the keyboard usually works on the first try, but the scanner on the B-Unit (used to login to Bloomberg Anywhere) often takes several tries. Whether I’m logging in with Bloomberg Anywhere on my Macbook or using my PC at my desk, a fingerprint is required to open the terminal. One of the only things I dislike about Bloomberg Terminal is having to use a fingerprint to login – every time. $4,000,000 planes and $35,000/month penthouses in NYC are typical. Since everyone who posts on POSH spends around $2,000/month in software fees (or works at a company who spends that amount) there are some pretty interesting items for sale. Terminal subscribers can post items they have for sale and other terminal users can directly contact the seller. One of the most interesting non-trading features on Bloomberg is POSH. These are the high-paying finance jobs that you won’t find on LinkedIn or Indeed. You can post jobs or look for jobs in the country and city of your choice. Granted, most Terminal users already have a job or trade on their own for a living, but the JOBS function is pretty sweet. JOBS – Job Hunting with 385,000 Financial Professionals NEWS lists and categorizes relevant news articles written by Bloomberg staff for Terminal subscribers to read before they are published on the Bloomberg website. With the GMM command, you can easily monitor the most significant moves in the global financial markets, all in one place. It’s like an encyclopedia on steroids for the topics you want/need to know about. Bloomberg breaks down complex topics ranging from the US heroin epidemic to China’s World Bank in easy, straightforward guides. This is one of my absolute favorite Terminal functions. ![]() ![]() QUIC – Complex Topics Explained Quickly and Simply For example, if TSLA drops to $150 a share, then the Bloomberg proprietary default risk will be approximately x%. Factors like long-term debt, share price, interest expenses, and market capitalization are adjustable to create various if/then scenarios. This is an awesome Bloomberg tool that looks at the default risk of a particular company. SPLC is even available for some popular private companies, like Uber and Lift. With the Supply Chain Analysis, you can easily see both the suppliers and customers of virtually any company in the world.įor Apple Computers, we can see the suppliers, customers, and relevant competitors. Checking Out Some Bloomberg FunctionalityĪlthough there are thousands of commands to enter into the Bloomberg Terminal, the screenshots below show some of the most useful and interesting functions. Is the Bloomberg Terminal worth it for the average individual trader? Probably not, but if you can justify the cost, then it’s unequivocally an invaluable tool. In fact, if you’re a professional buy-side or sell-side trader, it’s often necessary solely to communicate with other broker-dealers and Terminal users through the chat function. ![]() If you’re serious about dealing in the financial markets, yes. If you have an international portfolio, and you want quotes on stocks, options, and futures in London an China, market data fees rapidly add up. This means if you want real-time data from the NYSE, CME, OPRA, or any other exchange, you’ll be billed the full cost in addition to the $1,900 per month. Like most professional market data providers, Bloomberg passes through all exchange fees to their clients. This would be over $1.1 million dollars a year in software fees alone! A large hedge fund or other financial institution can easily have 50 traders and analysts all with subscriptions. The current price of Bloomberg Terminal is $1,900 per terminal subscriber. How Much Does the Bloomberg Terminal Cost?īloomberg offers white-glove, quality financial data and service. Recognized by the unique blue and orange color scheme on the keyboard and terminal windows, Bloomberg is a common fixture at just about every major bank and hedge fund. The Bloomberg Terminal is one of the most iconic financial data platforms in the world. ![]() ![]() From the way the set pieces are laid out, the framing of certain (spectacular) shots, and the music cues, there is a morbid whimsy purposefully injected into the show. I think there’s a certain appeal in watching something that is so meticulously drawn. Watching the nine episodes is an intense experience. More than one person has described the show to me as “fun,” which is absolutely wild. ![]() Someone convinced me to traumatize myself with this show, so now I’m going to pass that on, until we’re all collectively disturbed together. And then clicked play on the next one.) That’s intoxicating, even if it is rooted in such darkness, and people want to share that high.Ī more sinister extension of that is payback. (The cliffhanger-happy series once ended an episode in the middle of such a tense moment that I impulsively yelled, “Fuck you!” at the TV. There’s a certain thrill to being as shocked and as horrified as the characters in each episode of the series. (Squid Game, for example, is a variation on tag.) But the contestants soon learn-to their horror and the reason I may never sleep soundly again-that “being eliminated” means being killed.Īnecdotally, I’ve noticed different reasons that people have become Squid Game evangelists. At first, these seem like childhood games, like Red Light, Green Light. Once they sign a strangely sparse contract, it is explained to them that if they make it through six games without being eliminated, they will win 45.6 billion won, or what amounts to $38.7 million. ![]() He arrives at a secret venue to find 455 other contestants-he is number 456-all in similarly dire straits, confused about what they’ve gotten into but tantalized at the prospect of a cash prize. (Good luck to all of us the first time we hear “red light” again.) But here’s a brief primer: The series, which can be watched on Netflix in Korean with English subtitles or dubbed in English, comes from South Korean director and writer Hwang Dong-hyuk.Ī down-on-his-luck gambler with a mountain of debt, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), is recruited by a mystery man to participate in an ambiguous game that he promises will allow Gi-hun to settle his finances and start his life over. Or, um, the intensity of their waking nightmares after watching. The less a person knows about Squid Game, the better for their enjoyment. So here we have this interesting dichotomy: Squid Game may be the most upsetting series I’ve ever seen, and it also may be the most globally popular series in modern times. The streamer is on record saying it is on track to be its most-watched series ever. 1 show on Netflix in 90 different countries. Proving both how clever and exquisitely cinematic the series is, but also maybe how desperate people are not to be left out, Squid Game is currently the No. Especially in this last week, that peculiar title-what the hell could a “Squid Game” possibly be?!-has been everywhere, spreading its tentacles, so to speak, to news headlines, social media feeds, and group texts, where friends and family debate each episode’s twists and commiserate over the trauma. A metaphorical stabbing.įew series in the age of streaming have ever become word-of-mouth phenomena at the scale and speed with which the South Korean thriller has since its Sept. It’s the show’s own brutal gameplay with the audience. The violence, the psychological warfare, the haunting real-world feasibility of something seemingly so outrageous: it pierces you, but then it stays there. When I talk about how disturbed I was by Netflix’s hit series Squid Game, it’s not in the way that, at brunch with friends, someone might exclaim, “Oh my God, you guys, this show totally creeped me out,” for dramatic effect and attention. I wonder if I’ll ever stop thinking about it? I sort of shielded my eyes, but also couldn’t look away. Over the next minute, I reflexively started to lean back into my couch, as if my body was trying to run away from the TV, and began to make this weird combination gasp-yelp sound. It was a little over 40 minutes into the first episode of Squid Game when my eyebrow arched in confusion, I squinted closer at the TV, and, without realizing it, stopped breathing. ![]() ![]() Using this system, we can count the 3 half steps between the 1st note of the chord and the 2nd note of the chord which are C and Eb: The distance between that same black key (C#) and the D key is also a half step. So, the distance between the C key and the black key directly to the right (C#) is a half step. Half steps are counted by moving between 2 notes directly next to each other. The distance between the Eb note and the G note is 4 half steps. ![]() The distance between the C note and the Eb note is 3 half steps. ![]() D# and Eb are the same note - but for different chords we will use one name or the other! When talking about a C minor chord, we’d more likely refer to this black key as Eb. Minor chords are made when the distance between note 1 and note 2 of the chord is a minor 3rd (3 half steps,) and when the distance between note 2 and note 3 of the chord is a Major 3rd (4 half steps.) This is the exact opposite of how we make a Major chord! Let’s take a look at this C minor chord on the keyboard below:Īs you can see, the C, D# / Eb, and G notes make up the C minor chord. Remember, the distance from one note to another note is called an interval. When creating a minor chord, we want to pay close attention to the distance between each note of the chord. Minor triad chords are also made up of 3 notes stacked on top of each other. With this simple system, you can create a major chord anywhere on the keyboard! And we can count 3 half steps between the 2nd note of the chord and the 3rd note of the chord which are E and G: A standard Major triad chord will always have a Major 3rd as the interval between its first 2 notes. This creates an interval called a Major 3rd between the first 2 notes of the chord. Using this system, we can count the 4 half steps between the 1st note of the chord and the 2nd note of the chord which are C and E: The distance between the E note and the G note is 3 half steps. The distance between the C note and the E note is 4 half steps.
